About Us: 

The VAVRS is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization with an extensive history of assisting and advocating for EMS agencies in Virginia since 1935. Today we represent over 300 agencies with approximately 20,000 members. We are dedicated to meeting the ever-changing demands of emergency medical responders from all backgrounds and experiences. We provide high quality training and a collaborative environment for all emergency medical responders.
 
VAVRS SCRAPBOOK RULES - COMPETITION - INFORMATION

There will be a competition this year at Convention for the VAVRS and VAJVRS Scrapbooks (both squad and district).  This duty has been turned over to the AVAVRS and Fay Browning, AVAVRS President, has appointed VAVRS Life Member and Past VAVRS Historian Mike Smoot to take on this position.  For more information click on the links below.  The theme for 2021 is "First Responders, Fire, Rescue, Police, The Real Heroes"

National EMS Weekend of Honor 2021-
New dates and location announced

 
Washington, D.C. (April 4, 2021) –
The National EMS Memorial Bike Ride, 
the National EMS Memorial Foundation
and the National EMS Memorial Service
announced that the 2021 National
EMS Memorial Service and Weekend of Honor,
originally scheduled for May has been moved
to July 23- 25, 2021 at the Hyatt Regency
Crystal City at Reagan National Airport, 
Arlington, VA
.
 
The goal for the reschedule was to balance 
our commitment to provide a safe and
healing environment for all attendees while
providing special recognition for the many
participants who remain on the front-line
of the COVID-19 response.

The ceremonies will pay tribute to the past
two year’s honorees-2019-2020-due to the 
cancellation of the 2020 events in response 
to the pandemic.

Volunteer Firefighter and Rescue Squad Service Award Program:





This Service Award Program for Volunteer Firefighters and Rescue Squad Workers (VOLSAP) was created by state statute, specifically § 51.1-1200–51.1-1211 of the Code of Virginia, to provide a mechanism by which the state could facilitate optional retirement savings for volunteer firefighters and rescue squad workers throughout the Commonwealth.   




 
2021 Traffic Incident Management Award Information:

The Virginia Statewide Traffic Incident Management Committee is pleased to announce that nominations are open for this year's TIM awards.  These awards recognize those that make a significant difference to responder safety through training, organizational management, innovation and collaboration with stakeholders.  
 
Two award categories will recognize an individual or organization that exemplifies furtherance submitted of the Virginia Statewide Traffic Incident Management Program.
 
Attached you will find the nomination form describing the awards along with the required documentation and instruction on how to file your nomination. Please read each statement carefully and answer completely along with any needed documentation.
 
Forward the nomination form to:  tims.training@vdh.virginia.gov. Nominations must be no later than September 1, 2021.

2021 VAVRS EVOC Instructor Update Information:

EVOC INSTRUCTOR UPDATE: 

All of the scheduled VAVRS Instructor Updates have been completed.  The Virginia EVOC Coordinators and the VAVRS Training Coordinator will be completing an inventory of instructors by June 30, 2021.  At that time any instructors that have not completed the 2021 Instructor Update will be contacted by email and/or phone and offered two addtional dates where they can attend in order to remain an active instructor.

Any EVOC Instructor that knows they have not attended and does not want to be overlooked should send an email to Gary Dalton (gdalton@vavrs.com) with their contact information.

New USB drives, student handbooks, Virginia Laws booklets, training brochures, tests and other information will be disseminated and/or covered after the update.

Member Spotlight

The Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads is THE voice of EMS…. the advocate for our members, Virginia’s EMS agencies and providers.  

We link members and agencies for the purpose of sharing ideas, giving you a voice at the General Assembly, on state advisory boards, as well as on state and local committees. 

When our members have training issues or needs, they come to the VAVRS. 

When our members need assistance from leadership to budgets they  come to the VAVRS. 

We help rescue squads throughout the Commonwealth thrive and succeed so they can provide prompt, effective patient care 24/7 in the communities they serve.
 
 

Mission Statement
"The VAVRS shall promote and assist member rescue squads in improving pre-hospital care in Virginia."
 
Pre-hospital care shall mean providing rescue functions and rendering of emergency care for patients outside the hospital.

The VAVRS shall help its members improve pre-hospital care by:
•Providing training to it members.
•Improving communications and liaisons between agencies.
•Promoting legislation beneficial to pre-hospital providers.
•Providing management and assistance services.
•Promoting and recognizing pre-hospital providers.
