**ASHLEY'S LAW - Attention all EVOC Instructors...please instruct all students on the changes caused by the adoption of SB 762-Emergency vehicles, proceeding past red lights....this changes 46.2-920-paragraph 2 - that the driver of an emergency vehicle is given three options: either (i) sound a siren, exhaust whistle, or air horn designed to give automatically intermittent signals or (ii) yield right-of-way or, if required for safety, bring the vehicle to a complete stop before proceeding with due regard to the safety of persons and property. Our instructions to you are to remind and inform your students that "THE SAFEST PRACTICE IS TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AT ALL INTERSECTIONS!"

Because the VAVRS State Office has received numerous calls on numerous occasions from EVOC
instructors and individuals asking what OEMS accepts as EVOC certification to meet the VA
Rules/Regulations requirements.
Below is directly from OEMS:
The following training programs have been reviewed and are recognized as equivalents to the
emergency vehicle operator requirements established in the Rules and Regulations Governing
EMS in the Commonwealth (July 1990) - Section 5.2b.1a (2).
